ANZAC day 2012

I was so proud of this young Aussie  Reilly marching on ANZAC day and baby sister was there but was more interested is catching some ZZZZZZ in her beautiful bunny suit.

Birthday

It has been a long time between posts, I am house sitting for a friend and have not been able to get my computer working but last night No 4 daughter was able to get me up and running again, thanks Nic.

I had a birthday last week and my 4 daughters bought me a new camera, the first photo taken was of Emma at my celebration dinner. I was able to get all my daughters and all my grandchildren together in one place which was tremendous fun. The grandchildren range in age from  17 to 7 weeks.
Tracey my eldest daughter and me having a chuckle at something funny
Nic is my youngest daughter and Me
A happy Jack and his mum Paula No 3 daughter.
A not so happy Jack who was making it quite clear he didn't like what he was being told to do or maybe not to do.
So here they all are we have Reilly 7 at the top on Sean 17 shoulders then Emma nearly 2 trying desperately to get off Nans lap then Heidi 7 weeks being an angel next is Molly 7 and Chloe 5 she will be 6 very soon and Leah 5 with Jack in the front who is 3.
My beautiful and handsome 8 grandchildren.
Now for some reason Jo my No 2 daughter missed out on my photos that night I will need to do something about getting a shot of her soon.

How Batik Fabric is made

                  How Batik is made.

I thought I would show you some shots of
the process of making batik.

The fabric is pre dyed with base colour and then stamped with hot wax.

In these photo's the Balinese men are applying the hot wax in different patterns.
When the next colour dye is applied it will only penetrate the fabric where there is no wax.
The fabric is then boiled to remove the wax.
Sometimes this is done more than once to produce beautiful fabric.
As it is a hand process there is never two pieces of fabric exactly the same even in a 1 yard piece you will get variations in colour and design.

This is the beauty of Bali Batik.

Bali trip

Here I am in Bali, we stayed at the Bali Hyatt
in Sanur Beach. I had a lovely time with my youngest
daughter and 2 of her friends.
We had a great day touring the island with a taxi driver we met at the beach. One of our stops was the Bali zoo where we became acquainted with this lion. I must say I wasn't keen to do this but after watching others I thought why not. We also went up to Ubud and went to see monkies at the monkey forest they were much better behaved than I remember from my 1982 visit as at that time they would take your glasses off your head and only give them back when you gave them a banana.

Welcome to Bay Batik Boutique

Hi my name is Lesley Blackwood; I have been a quilter for about 12 years but a sewer and crafter for 50 years.

I have loved Batik fabric from Bali since my first visit there in 1982.

A Bargello Quilt I made using Batik fabrics
Last year when my daughter and her family went to Bali I asked her to bring me back some fabric from a factory I had contacted on the internet, since then I have had several deliveries from them.

Up until now I have concentrated on selling to my local quilting groups and I've also sold some of my fabrics on ebay.
I am now entering a new challenge with this blog and a big cartel shop.

My supplier sends 2 container loads of stunning fabrics to the US every month but has only me and one other customer in Australia. So my fabrics are highley exclusive in Australia.

I hope you enjoy looking at my fabrics and using them to make lovely quilts and other projects. They are high-count cotton and are great for appliqué, and pieced work.

Welcome to My blog, I'd love to hear from you, and if you are after anything in particular please just email me and I will do my best to get what you need.
